Alpbach Ski Resort, Austria

Alpbach is a Tyrolean ski resort, on a sunny plateau only 45 minutes from Innsbruck. This charming resort is popular with British skiers. The ski runs offer intermediates and beginners the best choice, making Alpbach an ideal family venue.

Alpbach ski resort offers 45 km of groomed trails, 74 km of immaculate cross-country skiing trails in scenic surroundings, untracked powder ski runs for ski mountaineers and cleared winter hiking trails.

Snow Reliability is not fantastic, with a resort altitude of 1000 metres and a highest lift just above 2000 metres, but the nursery runs have artificial snow when necessary. Ski school and childcare are of a high standard. There is some powder for experts, but this relies on decent snow, something that isn't guaranteed in Alpbach given its relatively low altitude.

Interesting facts: in 1975 the Austrian Public Health Institue certified that Alpbach had the purest air in the whole of Austria. Then in 1983, thanks to its homogenous architectural style and lovely floral decorations, Alpbachtal was voted "Austria's most beautiful village".
