Bad Kleinkirchheim Ski Resort, Austria

Bad Kleinkirchheim ski resort (generally abbreviated to 'BKK') is in a sunny little valley - Austria's sunniest region - in the midst of the Carinthian Nockberge mountains of southern Austria. Bad Kleinkirchheim is not just a ski resort, it's also a famous spa town with thermal springs that attracts wealthy visitors from Salzburg and Vienna to its spas.

Bad Kleinkirchheim is a very attractive ski resort, with grand up-market buildings interspersed with numerous shops and restaurants. The atmosphere is quite cosmopolitan and, with three five-star hotels and plenty of wealthy clients, there is always an international air about the place.

The Bad Kleinkirchheim ski resort is great for intermediates, with some good runs for beginners, but very limited runs for more advanced skiers. The ski area is a reasonable size, and there are also good facilities for snow boarders too, with a floodlit half-pipe and snowboard park.

Bad Kleinkirchheim ski resort is also a major centre for international mountain sports competition, including the Alpine World-Cup, the Snowboard World Series and even the European Mountain bike Snow Downhill Cup.

It is also home to the legendary downhill skiing olympic champion, Franz Klammer. Bad Kleinkirchheim ski resort is "his place to ski" and you'll still find him there enjoying the slopes.

Snow (or lack of it) can be a problem due to the low altitude, but snow making is extensive and covers almost half the ski area.
