Cerro Bayo Ski Resort, Argentina

Cerro Bayo Ski Resort is 9 km from the attractive city of Villa la Angostura. Mount Bayo frames the ski resort, with forests covering its hillsides and a beautiful picture postcard landscape.

This is a small, family oriented ski resort, with 20 kms of piste, a 200 hectare skiable area and a 700 meter vertical drop. It has pistes for beginners, but is more suited to intermediate and advanced skiers. There are 28 signaled runs and 11 lifts, good black runs, deep snow in the ravines and great off-piste runs through untouched forests running from the summit to the base.

Three snowcats access the upper part of the mountain by ascending the steep face via an access road which is also the only easy way to ski down from the mountain's midpoint. Beginners learn on the tow lift at the top of the principal chairlift and then download to return safely to the base.

Intermediate skiers tend to ski the Pomita tow and the Bosque chairlift, which ascend the ridge toward the summit. The trail to the immediate left (south) of the poma is the most popular and serves as the race hill.

Advanced and expert skiers will enjoy the south and southeast aspects of the main bowl alongside the T-Bar de la Cumbre. They can descend the left side of the T-Bar track to re-enter the bowl or ski off to the right to return to Pomita.

Cerro Bayo and Antillanca (Chile) have recently teamed up as the 'centros amigos'. These two fine resorts, located around 90 kms (56 miles) apart, can now be skied on the same lift pass. Purchase a weekly pass at either resort, and you can ski at both during the week. This program allows skiers to stay at the homey forested lodges at Antillanca or at the luxurious lakeside resorts of Villa la Angostura and enjoy plenty of exciting skiing throughout their weeklong stay.
