Galtur Ski Resort, Austrai

Galtur ski resort is a traditional, small Austrian alpine village near the Swiss boarder, in the Silvetta Mountains. It is a family resort and one of Austria's highest, at an altitude of 1600m, which usually means that it gets great snow.

The uncrowded skiing at Galtur is ideal for beginners and early intermediates. Unfortunately the reason for the lack of advanced skiing is, in part, due to an avalanche at the resort in 1999 which took 30 lives and buried alot of Galtur ski resort.

Galtur ski resort offers night-skiing and off-piste powder to give better skiers some challenges, however this is mostly a good family resort with a good snow record. The resort is compact and although the ski lifts are just over a mile (or 1.8 km) from the village, there is a good, free bus service.

For non skiers or those non ski moments, there is a a modern sports centre with indoor pool, toboggan run and plenty of other activities to try such as paragliding and snowcat tours.
